Business scholarship of the town of Wedel

From the winter semester 08/09 onwards, the town of Wedel provides for each excellent applicant who is interested in a career in higher administration, a scholarship in the bachelor's degree programme business administration at the University of Applied Sciences, Wedel. The town takes over all tuition fees which do not have to be returned after completing the studies.

Prerequisite for entering the programme is the acceptance at the University of Applied Sciences, Wedel, after a successful aptitude test and an interview with the city administration. The candidates should do the practical part of their studies at the city administration or in a city-owned company such as the "Sparkasse" (local bank). After graduating, they could work in one of these fields.

"We intend to increase the business know-how in the administration. Furthermore, we wish to demonstrate confidence in our university of applied sciences", says mayor Niels Schmidt during a press conference and adds: "We made the experience that 'ordinary' business people often face difficulties in administration departments because the goal is deficit minimization instead of profit maximization."

The university president Prof. Dr. Dirk Harms welcomes the initiative of the town and emphasizes: "Nowadays it is more important than ever to tie students prior to their graduation to their university. Therefore, we established a sponsoring system which gives companies the opportunity to take care of students during the entire programme."
